When I was moving, I decided to get a long book on tape to make all the driving I would be doing more enjoyable. I chose The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet because I had always wanted to read it--and see what all the acclaim was for--and because its long. 32-CDs long. I figured I'd be able to finish it through the span of my move.
Well, two months later and I've just now finished it! It took a LONG time to get through all 32 discs of the story, listening to little bits at a time when I was in the car (during the actual move, I think I only made it through disc 10), but I must say, I understand why it has garnered so much acclaim. It's a compelling story that kept me interested throughout, although a bit graphic at times and somewhat repetitious. It has a little bit of everything: adventure, history, romance, intrigue, suspense, tragedy, revenge and redemption. Certainly a very well written novel. I recommend it if you have time for such a long story.
Now on to the sequel, World Without End...

I've been reading this for the past few months on my plane flights. I'm down to the last couple chapters - it's one of the best books I've ever read! I wanna get the sequel too! I can't believe you listened to it on tape, the book probably took a whole forest to print it's so long!
