Updated

I've FINALLY gotten around to updating the blogroll on this here blog! Now there is a more comprehensive list of my favorite blogs down the right side of the page, categorized according to general topic.

I'm sure the list will continue to grow as I keep finding more and more blogs to read. It's become an addiction, but I love it. Thanks to all the wonderful bloggers out there who continue to inspire, entertain and amuse! :)

if you have 41 hours to kill...

When I was moving, I decided to get a long book on tape to make all the driving I would be doing more enjoyable. I chose The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet because I had always wanted to read it--and see what all the acclaim was for--and because its long. 32-CDs long. I figured I'd be able to finish it through the span of my move.

Well, two months later and I've just now finished it! It took a LONG time to get through all 32 discs of the story, listening to little bits at a time when I was in the car (during the actual move, I think I only made it through disc 10), but I must say, I understand why it has garnered so much acclaim. It's a compelling story that kept me interested throughout, although a bit graphic at times and somewhat repetitious. It has a little bit of everything: adventure, history, romance, intrigue, suspense, tragedy, revenge and redemption. Certainly a very well written novel. I recommend it if you have time for such a long story.

Now on to the sequel, World Without End...

Escorial

My new favorite font of the moment is Escorial, with its classic, lined simplicity yet fun whimsy.

There's a similar version for free here.

Pops in the Park

The Charlotte Symphony hosts a free summer concert series called Pops in the Park and the first night was this past Sunday. The outdoor concert park was so packed we had to sit behind the pavilion stage. We took a picnic dinner and enjoyed sitting out in the warm weather enjoying the wonderful music of the symphony.

I tried out this recipe by Giada de Laurentis. It was pretty tasty and was perfect for the picnic, along with cheddar garlic biscuits, fruit salad and brownies. Overall it was a great time and I'm excited for this weekend's show!

Pretty Shoe Tuesday

In my opinion, there are certain things that you can never have enough of. Black dress shoes are one of those things.

UP

Saw this movie over the weekend. It's seriously the cutest movie ever. Funny, sweet, heartwarming, and adventurous, with a good soundtrack too.

Could possibly be the best Pixar movie to date, aside from The Incredibles.

in the shop

Something has been wrong with my macbook wireless airport, so I took it in to the Apple store to get it looked at today. Unfortunately, they have to send it in for repairs, and I won't have it for a whole week!  This means I'll be dependent on using Hunter's laptop when I can and posting may be light this coming week. Boo...
