Sometimes I just feel the need to make something, so while watching the Olympics (of course), I got crafty and started cutting out shapes from patterned paper I had laying around. Then I decided to make it into a note card. Then I decided to make a matching envelope. I think it turned out pretty cute considering its the first note card I've ever made.








I'm thinking I might make more with different flowers/colors to make a whole set.

olympics + gershwin = gold

I feel like all I want to do is go home and watch the Olympics. It's like I'm addicted...The little red record button on the tivo has been on non-stop recording all the primetime coverage. It's been nothing but Olympics on the TV in our apartment for the past three days...and it will probably be that way up until the closing ceremonies. Maybe Michael Phelps quest for world history has a little bit to do with that....

Anyways... just like the Superbowl, the Olympics coverage means we get to see fresh, innovative, specialized advertising to highlight the games and its sponsors. Big name athletes and endorsements galore! I actually really like a lot of this year's Olympic commercials; Home Depot, Coca Cola, and Visa have put out some good spots. (McDonalds, on the other hand, I cannot say the same for you--your advertising seems to get worse and worse every year in my eyes).

The commercials I've enjoyed the most though are United Airlines new whimsical, artistic spots featuring George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. I love, Love, LOVE Rhapsody in Blue in all it's musical glory, so the minute I heard this on the TV I was intrigued. I actually was thinking, "Who was genius enough to use Gershwin in their ads?" and when United popped up as the advertiser, I was a little surprised. Totally not expecting United Airlines, but props to their marketing department for merging such classic music with innovative, design-savvy artwork. Brilliance!

The Sea Orchestra spot is my favorite. The animation alludes to paper ephemera cut-outs and I really like that. :)

Did anyone else see the incredible Men's 400M Freestyle Relay finals last night?! The US pulled past the French in the last five seconds to take the Gold, and oh my gosh, was it an exciting race. The French were slated to win this event and had been trash talking saying they were going to "smash" the US team. Boy, did they eat their words. Not only did Phelps, Weber-Gale, Jones, and Lezak win Gold, but they shattered the world record by like a full four seconds! Lezak anchored the race with the fastest split in history. This race was ridiculous.


This means Michael Phelps is still in the running to make 8-gold-medals-in-one-Olympics history.


mmmhhh...yeaaa...can we tell that I spent practically the whole weekend watching the Olympics? I'm hooked. And the Opening Ceremonies were incredible.

let the games begin

The 2008 Beijing Olympics kick off tonight and although there's been a lot of controversy over this year's Olympics, I for one, am excited to watch all the competitions over the next two weeks. I have always enjoyed the spirit and fanfare of the Olympics, especially the Summer games (hello? Michael Phelps, Athens, 2004!?), so you better believe that I will be watching as much as I can! Gymnastics, Track & Field, Swimming/Diving, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Synchronized Swimming, and Trampoline (Trampoline?!) are all scheduled to record on my Tivo!

Lately, I've been having a lot of creative inspiration and ideas rolling around in my head for some art/design projects and have been trying to find the time and means to actually start working on some of them. I can't really define what I want to do, I just know that I have some ideas and want to test them out! I always have ideas and then just sit on them, but this past week has given me a kick in the butt to start working! So this weekend I'm hoping to let the creative juices flow...
